Disney is constantly adding new things to the Walt Disney World Resort every year. It can be hard to keep up with the latest openings and what to expect on your next trip to the Walt Disney World Resort. Trust me, I do this for a living and even I have trouble with all the latest announcements. With that being said Disney has announced some truly incredible things and while we do have to wait until 2021 for some of them, there are a few that will be here next summer!
Keep checking back, as we are constantly updating this list as Disney World makes announcements on new opening dates and new additions to the resort!
Star Wars Galaxy's Edge: While we have known about "Star Wars Land" for quite sometime now. It now officially has a name, Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and we also know more about the land itself. Star Wars Galaxy's Edge will take place on the planet Batuu in a once busy trading post that has since been taken over by smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space This new land in Hollywood Studios is bringing with it many new exciting additions including an un-named Millenium Falcon attraction, an untitled Star Destroyer Attraction, a shopping market and at least one confirmed cantina with exclusives such as blue milk!
Toy Story Land: Much like Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, we have known about Toy Story Land for awhile now. But, unlike Star Wars Land, Toy Story Land will be opening this coming summer! Toy Story is bringing with it some amazing new attractions including Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster that allows guests to ride on the back of the beloved character and the Alien Swirling Saucers which are Tea Cup esq with a little green alien twist. Woody's Lunchbox is the only confirmed dining area inside of Toy Story Land but we are still holding our breath for a Pizza Planet revival!
Tron Coaster: Disney officials announced at D23 that Disney Shanghai's highest rated attraction, Tron, will be coming to Walt Disney World Florida. Tron lightcycle power run as it's known in Shanghai is a coaster-style attraction where guest board a train with carts meant to resemble the lightcycles from the 2010 film. The new Tron attraction will sit in an entirely new area next to Space Mountain and behind Tomorrowland Speedway. Disney officials have assured us that classics like the Carousel of Progress and the Walt Disney Railroad will remain untouched.
Mickey's Runaway Rollercoaster: Another new attraction announced at this years D23 Expo, Mickey's Runaway Rollercoaster will be the first ever Mickey Themed Ride-Through attraction. (Strange Right?) Mickey's Runaway Rollercoaster will be coming to Hollywood Studios sometime in the future and will be replacing The Great Movie Ride. (Still salty about that) This attraction will bring guests into the world of a wacky Micky Mouse short like the ones you can see on the Disney Channel. It will feature a new story and a new singable attraction theme song a la "It's A Small World" as well as a new experience Disney Officials are calling "2 1/2D."
Ratatouille Attraction: The long rumored Ratatouille Attraction is finally heading to Epcot's France Pavilion. Inspired by the 2007 Film, the 4D attraction will expand the France Pavilion and will be very similar Ratatouille:The Adventure, a 4d attraction that opened in 2014 at Disneyland Paris. Aboard this ride, guest will be "Shrunk" down to the size of Remy, a food loving rat and the films main character. This ride is expected to arrive no later than 2021, just in time for the parks 50th anniversary.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Attraction: Not much is known about the new Guardians Of The Galaxy attraction coming to Walt Disney World. What we do know is that the ride will be replacing Ellen's Energy Adventure in the Future World area of Epcot (Sad I know) so we are expecting it to be the same type of attraction. We also know that the ride is expected to be completed in time for Epcot's 50th anniversary in 2021.
Disney Skyliner: A brand new transportation system is coming to the Walt Disney World Resort and it will connect Disney's Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Caribbean Beach Resorts with Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot. It won't exactly be like the Gondola ride of old but we are excited to have something similar coming back to the parks.
Star Wars Resort: Bob Chapek , Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts confirmed earlier this year that a Star Wars Themed resort will be coming to Walt Disney World in the near future. According to Bob, this resort will be "Unlike anyhting that exists today. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”
Disney Vacation Club Riviera Resort: The 15th Disney Vacation Club Resort, the Disney Riviera, will be added to the Walt Disney World Skyliner Gondola line, right next to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. The resort is expected to be open in the fall of 2019 and will feature a rooftop restaurant with views of both Epcot's and Hollywood Studios nighttime spectaculars as well as 300 units with varying levels of accommodations.
